EVERYTHING FOR GOD'S LITTLE BLESSINGS

What to Consider When Naming Your Baby

There are no rules for naming your sweet baby, and I would not presume to tell anyone how or what to name their child.

However, there are some things that you might want to consider before making that final decision.

First of all, what sounds good now may not sound so good sometime later, when the name is finalized.  I know that names can be changed legally, but why not try to get it right the first time.

Secondly, and probably most importantly, your child will have to live with your name choice(s) throughout his or her life (or at least until he/she is old enough to change it).

Thirdly, be very careful with family names as first (and sometimes middle) names.  I know this first hand as my parents gave me the middle name of my grandfather which didn't ever bother me until I got to school. And when the other kids heard it they would laugh and tease me unmercifully.

The sad thing is that I dearly loved my grandfather and was proud to carry his name, but I eventually became bitter and even got into fights over the teasing.

It took a long time to again regain the pride in my granddad's name, and I now am at ease with telling the world my middle name is "Herman".

And finally, be cautious with unusual names or odd spellings.  Again, your child is going to have to spend the rest of his life spelling his name to others in school and later in business, or daily activities. It can really get old.

Some statistics have shown that people with the more common names such as John, Joe, Bill, Michael, Jim, Mary, Kathy, Jean, Linda, and so on........achieve more success in life than those with more unusual names.

Now, this doesn't mean that If you name your baby "Tooter" she won't be successful in life.  Success is relative anyway.  However, the point is simply that a common name is easier to remember and use...that's all.

And by the way my daughter is not named "Tooter".  That is only her nickname, and NICKNAMES are another issue for another time.

Below are several good resources to help you select your baby's perfect name:
